What is proprietary trading, and how does it work? Proprietary trading firms are private entities where the trader trades the company’s capital instead of their own funds.  As a prop trading firm, Ronin provides the funds for our traders to use in executing trades on the stock market. Trades are executed through our computer software that allows traders direct access to various markets and exchanges.

Is Ronin Asset Management a broker? No, we do not provide financial advice nor do we raise capital from individuals for investment purposes

Is Ronin a hedge fund? No. We do not raise money from outside investors.

If  I don’t have any trading experience, can I still apply to Ronin Asset Management? Ronin offers a training program for qualified individuals who will work one-on-one with our senior traders and mentors.  Training programs are offered to each Ronin trader with demo accounts available to learn.

What  qualifications  do I need to become a  Ronin trader? You do not need experience in trading, but experienced traders are welcome of course. You should be energetic an confident in your abilities. A MBA, BA, or other business related education is an asset but is not mandatory; your personal demeanor and work ethic matter most.

I am interested in trading, but how do I know I will be successful? There is no guarantee that you will be successful.  Trading for a living is the greatest career second only to that of a professional athlete or actor.  It is also the most difficult career for that same very reason.  Everyone wants to do this and succeed at this job.  There is a reason that SO MANY people try their hand at this only to fail.  It takes a certain kind of person with a certain kind of personality to make it at this career.  There is no free money out there and there are no gimmicks to succeeding.  It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. It is SOLELY up to the individual.

If I become a trader at Ronin, what compensation can I expect? At Ronin your compensation is 100% performance based with no cap on your earnings. Your earning potential is based on your ability and your effort that you exert throughout your career.  Our payout rate maximizes your earning potential.  We are traders.  We like to see our traders make money first and foremost.  Traders receive different payout structures based on experience, trading style and track record.

Does Ronin require any financial investment by the trader? Unlike a lot of other firms out there, Ronin is a pure proprietary trading firm.  We trade 100% of the firm’s capital.  We do not take nor solicit for capital contributions from any of our traders.

What are the work hours at Ronins? Traders normally work full time during US market hours. Normally traders arrive about 7:30 – 7:45 AM and work until 4:30 PM.

I like everything I have read, but don’t live near any of your branch offices. Is trading remotely possible? Yes! Years ago, the answer to this question would have been a resounding “no.” Today, due to incredible technological advancements in professional trading software, we can monitor, assist, and teach a trader remotely, just as effectively as one on-site.

If I trade from home will I need special/expensive computer equipment? No. However, most traders like to have more than one monitor to view different market indicators, charts and stocks. We recommend a simple two computer setup with 2-3 monitors per computer. One computer should be exclusively dedicated to just the execution software while the other can be used for charting, email, IM, etc.

I would feel more comfortable starting slow. Is this possible? Absolutely.  Remember you will have a one-on-one relationship with your mentor and your training program will be tailored to your specific personality and level of experience. For novices you will start on a simulator until you are comfortable with executing orders with real money.

You mention that you teach tape reading but where do charts and technical analysis fit into your trading program? Technical analysis is the mechanism by which we make all trade decisions – when to enter and exit trades, but we combine this with tape reading.  It is an important part of research and choosing which stocks to trade.

Is the amount of money I can make capped in any way? No.  Risk control and money management are critical components of our training program — but ultimately how much you make is up to you!

Once I become profitable should I expect to make money every week, every month? The answer is that there are no guarantees in the markets. You must remain vigilant and true to your training in order to remain consistent.  Markets are always changing and you must adapt to these changes.  What worked five years ago may not work today.  But the underlying principles for entering and exiting trades remain true and certain.  The idea is to take the emotion out of trading and have a solid reason for each and every trade.

How is working for Ronin different from working at an investment bank? At Ronin, we encourage individuality and entrepreneurship from the bottom up.  Your success leads to the team’s success.  More eyes and ears on the market generate more ideas for all of us.  We are traders here.  Traders first and foremost.  And we realize that success on a trading desk only breeds more success

Do I receive a salary as a trader? No. Our traders are paid on performance only. Compensation is based on each individual trader’s net profit and loss.

Do I need to my own money to trade? No. At Ronin we provide 100% capital. We do not accept any outside funds.

What does a typical day at Ronin look like? A typical day at Ronin can be quite varied. Traders arrive around 7:30am-7:45 EST, and conduct their market research.  A daily morning meeting takes place everyday around 8:45 am.  Traders usually have a quick lunch mid-day and trade through the market close.  After the close, we evaluate performances and the traders who performed the best explain their methodologies and ideas from that day.

What is the culture of the trading floor? The trading floor is mostly informal however it is an intellectual environment of traders at all levels in their careers.  Our open floor organizational structure allows for easy communication among our traders, both of senior and junior level.  We are firm believers that more eyes and ears on the markets lead to more ideas which lead to more success.
